FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Finding the right person

How do you choose a worker for my child?

We get to know your child’s personality, interests, communication style and support needs, along with their goals and any therapy recommendations. We consider those alongside the worker’s experience, location and availability. Tell us what helps your child feel comfortable, what they enjoy and what has or has not worked before. Your child’s preferences are part of that conversation.

My child is shy or anxious about meeting someone. Can we start slowly?

Let us know what makes introductions easier. We can discuss a familiar setting, a favourite activity and a gentle first meeting. The pace and support arrangements are agreed with you and your child.

Can we meet the worker before committing?

Yes. A free meet and greet gives you and your child a chance to ask questions and see how the connection feels. Ongoing support, availability and costs are discussed separately.

Can we choose a worker or keep the same person?

You can tell us who you would like to meet and what matters in a match. We aim for consistency, but worker suitability and availability need to be confirmed. We will discuss alternatives if someone is unavailable.

What if the match does not feel right?

Please tell Santana or Oscar. We can listen to your concerns, review your preferences and discuss other available workers or changes to the support arrangement.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Planning your support

What can support sessions actually involve?

Depending on your goals and agreed support, sessions could include an outing, a shared interest, personal care, everyday routines, practising life skills or activities from a treating professional’s therapy plan. We agree on suitable activities with you first.

Can you support adults as well as children and young people?

Yes. We support people of all ages, with a particular passion for children, young people and young adults. Tell us the person’s goals and support needs so we can discuss whether our services and available workers are suitable.

Can support happen at home or out in the community?

We can discuss support at home and in the community around Adelaide and surrounding areas. Confirm the suburb, location, transport needs and any travel arrangements with us before support begins.

Can I request after-school times, weekends or transport?

Tell us your preferred days and times and whether transport is needed. These depend on current worker availability, suitability and the arrangements agreed before starting; submitting an enquiry does not reserve a time.

How is assistive therapy different from seeing a therapist?

Your treating allied health professional is responsible for clinical assessment and the therapy plan. An assistant supports agreed activities and practice within confirmed scope and supervision arrangements. Assistance does not replace clinical therapy.

Can a parent, carer or support coordinator enquire?

Yes. You can make an initial enquiry on someone’s behalf, while keeping their wishes and preferences central. For an adult participant, involvement and information sharing should reflect their consent and any applicable legal authority.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Funding, costs and next steps

Do you accept NDIS, DCP, DVA and private enquiries?

We welcome enquiries through these pathways. Please tell us your funding arrangement and the support requested. Eligibility, service suitability and payment arrangements must be confirmed individually before support starts.

What will support cost, and are there travel or cancellation charges?

Ask us about the rate for your service, minimum session length, travel and cancellation arrangements. These should be clear in the agreed service arrangements before starting. The meet and greet is free; ongoing support is separate.

What do I need for my first enquiry?

Your name, contact details, suburb and a brief description of interests and support needs are enough to start. Keep the initial enquiry general; please do not send NDIS numbers, medical records or child-protection files through the website form.

What happens after I submit the form?

Your enquiry goes into Harbour Help’s enquiry system. Our team will contact you to learn more and discuss the next step. A submission does not automatically book a call or confirm a worker.

How do I raise a question or concern?

Contact Santana or Oscar on 0468 250 175 or hello@harbourhelp.com.au. Tell us what happened and how you would prefer us to respond. You can also ask for information about the appropriate complaints process.
